What We Do
Cubs are aged from 8 to 101/2 and meet each Friday, term time only, at 6.30 to 8.00 at Dalston Recreation Hall.
Cubs do - Lots of badges building up to the Chief Scouts Silver Award. We enjoy making things, games and outdoor challenges (such as archery).
The Pack is run by a team of leaders, each known by a name from the ‘Jungle Book’, with help from Explorer Young Leaders and occasionally other leaders in the Group. The leaders are Kevin, Samantha, Ellie and Madeline.
Aim to arrive no more than 5 minutes early. If youngsters wish to play on the equipment outside before (or after) a meeting, they need to be supervised by parents. Stay on the premises at the end of the evening until collected. We expect regular attendance – anyone who misses 3 consecutive meetings without contacting us will be deemed to have left and their place offered to someone on the waiting list.
Uniform is to be worn at pack meetings – sweater, neckerchief and dark trousers/ dark plain tracksuit bottoms. For warm weather and active games, we recommend the green polo shirt if Cubs wish to remove the sweater. Uniform can be obtained from the National Schoolwear shop in Nelson St. Neckerchieves are available from the Group at £4 each.
After a few weeks an Investiture Ceremony will be held when new members make their Promise and are formally welcomed into the Pack. Parents are invited to attend.
We usually run a weekend summer camp at our district campsite (Ratlingate), along with opportunities to attend District gatherings. To get the most out of Pack membership, we expect all Cubs to attend. This is the only way to complete the Outdoor Challenge and eventually achieve the highest award, the Chief Scout’s Silver Award.
Subs are £35 per term (just over a third of which goes to pay our annual capitation fee to Scout HQ in London) and should be paid within the first 2 weeks of the start of a new term. Please make cheques payable to ‘Dalston Cub Pack’ and place all payments in a sealed envelope with a name on. A receipt will be issued the following week.
If you are a tax payer, please fill in and return the Gift Aid form to help boost our funds.
All new members to the Group should bring the completed forms to the first meeting.
